KOCHI: DAM999, the
most controversial movie of
the year 2011, has bagged
two honourary awards at
the Global Music Awards
(GMA) held at California,
USA.
GMA had bestowed
Award of Excellence for
the Motion Picture Soundtrack
and Award of Merit
for Original Score to Sohan
Roy’s DAM999, a statement
said here today.
The movie was based
on real life incidents of the
1975 Banqiao Dam disaster
in China which took an estimated
250,000 lives.
The movie was last year
selected for the Oscar race
of 2011 in three categories
- Original Song, Original
Score and Best Picture.
In the Original song category,
the fi lm’s three songs
Dakkanaga Dugu Dugu,
Dam999 theme song and
Mujhe Chod Ke were selected
in the long Academy list.
DAM999 songs were
penned by Director Sohan
Roy and composed by Indian
music director Ousephachan,
a well-known name
in Indian Cinema.
Besides the composition of
the soundtracks, he had also
given the background score
to the movie. Ousephachan
won a national award for the
fi lm Ore Kadal.
