Face on search, to role of Divya Bharti

MUMBAI: Latest news from Bollywood town, plans are afoot to resurrect the superstar of the yesteryear Divya Bharti onscreen. Sources confi rm that a biopic is being worked on the darling of the millions Divya Bharti who lost her life in April 1993.‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh’ famed director Vikram Sandhu plans to make the fi lm on the life and times of Divya Bharti, the circumstances around whose death in the summer of 1993 continue to be a mystery. Divya Bharti entered the tinsel town with South Indian fl ick ‘Bobbili Raja’ in 1990 and then scored big hits. Bollywood invited her with ‘Dil Hi To Hai’ costarring Jackie Shroff in 1992 and saw her sizzle in 14 more fl icks. Divya Bharti became the heartthrob millions and was poised to become the queen of Bollywood before the cruel destiny took her away. It is known that Sandhu has completed the script and currently, the search is on to fi nd the right face to fi t the role of Divya Bharati. Buzz is that this would be hitting the fl oors in July 2012.

Fashion show in support of ‘Beti’

MUMBAI: A unique fashion show was organised here last night with eminent personalities walking the ramp in support of ‘Beti’, a movement against female foeticide. The theme of the fashion show, conceived by social activist Anu Ranjan, was ‘Healthy is hot, Zero is out’ and ‘Curvy is in, Skinny is out’. Walking on the ramp were eminent personalities from the Entertainment & Fashion industry including Yuvika Chaudhary, Jaswir Kaur, Priyanka Batra, Priya Kataria, Shashi Ranjan, Juhi Paarmar,Bina and Talat Aziz, Vardha Nadiadwala, Rumi Jaffery and Reena and Rohit Gupta. “This time, along with awareness of female foeticide, we also wanted to send the message across to young impressionable girls to eat healthy. Girls should eat foods with right amount of nutrition rather than starve themselves to maintain their bodies and invite health problems” , Anu said. “These kinds of fashion shows should be organised regularly, for spreading a word of awareness against female foeticide and health related things, Health is important, physical as well as mental” , said Mansi Parekh, host of the show, sponsored by Gitanjali group and Yes Bank.

Madonna throws cake on manager’s face

LONDON: Singer Madonna threw a piece of cake into her manager’s face at a surprise party for the success of her new album. While celebrating the success of her new album “MDNA”, the singer cut a piece of cake and smashed it into manager Guy Oseary`s face. “Guy, I wanna give Madonna throws cake on manager’s face this to you. Dinda shines as Pune Warriors beat Mumbai Indians by 28 runs

Pacer Ashok Dinda scalped four wickets as Pune Warriors pulled off an upset 28-run win over Mumbai Indians in a low-scoring Indian Premier League match on Friday. Batsman Yuvraj to return home land on April 9

NEW DELHI: Yuvraj Singh, who underwent cancer treatment in USA recently, would return to India on April 9. It’s expected that he would address the media on 11 April, where he would divulge the details of his treatment in the USA and his future course of action. The left-handed batsman, who is currently in London, was diagnosed with a rare sort of germ cell cancer a couple of months back. He was treated in Boston’s Cancer Institute in America. After having undergone three sessions of chemotherapy, he was discharged on March 18. Though he is far from complete good health, he has undergone successful treatment in the US and is back on the road to recovery.

‘’Ready to do all for Bengal’’ Shahrukh says to Mamata

KOLKATA: Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) joint owner Shahrukh Khan met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers’ Buildings this evening before the IPL match at the Eden Gardens. Shahrukh, the brand ambassador of West Bengal, was closeted with the Chief Minister at her chamber for about 20 minutes. Interacting with newspersons later; Shahrukh said he was ready to help the state in all aspects. ‘I have a deep connection with Bengal and I am willing to do all for the state,’ the actor maintained. ‘I also agreed to become the brand ambassador as soon as I was asked by Didi,’ he observed. The Chief Minister, who called Shahrukh as her brother, went to Eden Gardens along with him soon after. The KKR is taking on Delhi Daredevils at its fi rst IPL match at the Eden Gardens tonight.

Karisma’s ‘Dangerous Ishhq 3D’ unveiled

MUMBAI: The fi rst look of Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s much-awaited movie ‘Dangerous Ishhq 3D’ was unveiled at a suburban multiplex here on Wednesday night. The fi lm is a suspense thriller based on past life regression. It is a story of Sanjana (Karisma Kapoor), a super model, and Rohan (Rajneish Duggal), son of a big industrialist, who vanishes under mysterious conditions. The fi lm is Sanjana’s tryst with destiny, her journey into the past to save her future. Speaking on the occasion, Director Vikram Bhatt said, “Dangerous Ishhq 3D’is a different movie and return of Karsima Kapoor will always be the talking point, for me it’s the continuation of a journey that I began many years ago! Many lives that we live and many bodies that we change but the ever searching soul remains one”. Karisma said, “I am very excited for this movie. I thank the media, my family and my fans that motivated me for doing a movie like this. I really enjoyed doing the movie, and I hope my audience will also give me the love, which I have always received from them.” The supporting cast consists of Aryan Babbar, Jimmy Shergill, Divya Dutta, Sameer Kochar, Gracy Singh and Ruslaan Mumtaz. The music of the fi lm is composed by Himesh Reshammiya. ‘Dangerous Ishq 3D,’ produced by Reliance entertainment, releases in cinemas on May 11.

NFDC to launch heritage super-hit blockbuster movies

KURUSETRA: The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) plans to launch a National Film Heritage Mission with a view to conserving superhit blockbuster movies of the past 100 years of Indian cinema. Besides, a digital heritage lab is also proposed to be set up to make them accessible to masses. This was stated by NFDC Managing Director Neena Laat Gupta while speaking at the Media International Film Festival organised by the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology at Kurukshetra University in Kurukshetra today. There is also a plan to set up fi lm clubs in universities and colleges. She laid stress on promotion of movies in regional languages like Malyalam, Kannad, Tamil and others. Lauding the idea of holding fi lm festivals in small towns like Kurukshetra, she said that it was only through such festivals that the youth got to know about the glorifying history of Indian cinema. Speaking on the occasion, Udyan Prasad, a noted fi lm director from England, said that the 100-year-old history of Indian cinema showed that very few movies were based on rural areas. Films offered a global means of cultural exchange between different countries. The future of Indian cinema was dependent on the youth of the country, he added.

Pune Institute fi lms to be screened at short fi lm festival

GUWAHATI: A package of highly applauded diploma fi lms made by Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, students, some of whom went on to become renowned fi lmmakers, will be showcased at the 2nd Guwahati International Short Film Festival (GISFF) to be held here from May 4-6, celebrating the premier fi lm school’s golden jubilee. The specially-designed Golden Jubilee package, earlier screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF, 2012), comprise diploma fi lms made by the likes of Kumar Shahani, Girish Kasaravalli, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sriram Raghavan, Rajan Khosa and several others, a GISFF release informed here on Thursday. These fi lms give a glimpse to the early promise that these fi lmmakers exhibited as student fi lmmakers who learnt their craft at India’s fi rst fi lm school that has over the years churned out many a big talent in both artistic and technical streams of fi lmmaking. The technical crew of these fi lms also comprised then students of FTII. Some of them later became leading lights of the fi lm industry, such as cinematographers Jehangir Chowdhury, Hari Nair, editors the late Renu Saluja, Rajkumar Hirani and others. The fi lms from FTII to be screened at the GISFF include 37 Down Manmad Passenger (Kumar Shahani), Deccan Queen (KS Raju), Murder at Monkety Hill (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and The Eight Column Affair (Sriram Raghavan).
